Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering offers the opportunity for both personal as well as professional development, skill development in addition to community involvement that overall will enhance your academic experience. There are many people in need within the Greater Boston Area however there are numerous organizations committed to helping those in need! Here are some opportunities that are always looking for a helping hand! 


Animals 

Animal Rescue League of Boston: Provides unwavering support to the needs of animals, families that care about them, and neighborhoods. They provide veterinary care, adoption, and field services. 

MSPCA: The Massachusetts Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals protects animals, advance their health and welfare, prevent cruelty and work for a just and compassionate society 

New England Aquarium: Is a nonprofit research and conservation organization that protects and cares for our ocean and marine animals. Through exhibits, experiences, research, and advocacy work to inspire people to take action to protect the oceans. 

Children/Education

Boys and Girls Club of Boston: Is a nonprofit organization that provides a range of services and opportunities to children and teens to focus on healthy lifestyles, academic success, character development, leadership development, etc. 

Casserly House: A local organization that aims to be a place of welcome and connection for immigrants as well as a partner on neighborhood issues throughout Roslindale. 

CitySprouts: Fosters curiosity by providing hand-on experience learning in urban gardens. City Sprouts Garden Educators teach in 24 public schools throughout the Boston and Cambridge area. 

Cradles to Crayons: Provides kids in need with new clothing, toys, as well as books. Volunteer at "The Givin Factory Warehouse" in Newton or host a drive! 

Jumpstart: recruits college students to volunteer in preschools in low-income neighborhoods, teaching the child language and literacy skills to be prepared for school. 

Environment

Alternative Spring Break: This program allows students to dive deeper into exploring a social issue of interest to them through community-oriented lens. Alternative Breaks offer students the opportunity to participate in weekend and weeklong service and learning experiences. 

Boston Building Resources: Aims to educate, inspire, and empower homeowners to increase the efficiency and value ot their homes as well as focus on affordable solutions to help all neighbors. 

Groundwork Somerville: Is an environmental group that aims to cultivate the next generation of environmental leaders to grow a greener and more equitable Somerville. 

Food

Boston Food Pantry: The Boston Food Pantry's mission is to help alleviate hunger and food insecurity among low-income communities throughout Boston area. 

Community Servings: Actively engages the community to provide meals to chronically and critically ill individuals and their families. 

Greater Boston Food Bank: works passionately to end hunger across Eastern Massachusetts by providing healthy food and resources individuals need to thrive. 

Haley House: Uses food with purpose and the power of community to break down barriers between people, empower individuals and overall strengthen neighborhoods.

With dozens of hospitals within the Greater Boston Area, there are numerous ways to get involved volunteering in the medical field!

Shelters

Christopher's Haven: Is a low-cost housing option for children who haven been diagnosed with cancer and their families. Volunteer by hosting an arts and crafts day with those staying at on of their locations or throwing a birthday celebration for one of the children

Friend's of Boston's Homeless: Help the homeless move into safe, stable housing and get connected to services and opportunities they need to thrive. 

Pine Street Inn: Is the largest homeless services provider in New England including permanent housing, emergency shelter, street outreach and workforce development. Volunteer in the kitchen prep, meal service, create welcome baskets, laundry kits, etc. 

Rosie's Place: Is a shelter for homeless women that provides them with meals, employment, and educational services. Volunteers can work in the food pantry, teach classes, etc.
