Recruitment FAQs
We get it! Recruitment can be overwhelming and we are here to help! Below are some frequently asked questions to learn more about recruitment and how recruitment works here at Northeastern! If you can not find the question/answer you are looking for, please reach out to us directly for further assistance!
How Does Recruitment Work?
There are four rounds in the recruitment process. Each round gives you the opportunity to meet women from each chapter and discover where you feel most comfortable. As the process continues, you will attend fewer events but spend more time at each, helping you to narrow down your choices and focus on the chapters you feel the strongest connection with. The chapters also participate in this mutual selection process to identify women who align with their chapter ideals. The goal of this process is to help you find the chapter that best fits you.
What If I Need Accommodations?
Panhellenic has the ability to meet most accommodations. Reasons for accommodations can include but are not limited to mobility needs, language interpreters, or closed-captioning, etc. Accommodations should be noted on registration or communicated to the VP Recruitment External.
If I Have A Scheduling Conflict During Recruitment Can I Still Participate? What If I Get Sick?
We will do our best to work around any campus-related conflict, such as academic classes or sports. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact our VP of Recruitment External at vprecruitmentexternal@nupanhellenic.com. A conflict form will be available to PNMs. Furthermore, If you are to become ill during recruitment, please contact your Rho Gamma, and they can help you.
Can I Be Involved In A Sorority And Still In Academics And Other Organizations?
Yes! Academics will always be a priority here at Northeastern and the Panhellenic community. Each chapter has a chair position for academics aid their members in their studies! Furthermore, most members of the Panhellenic community are involved in many other clubs on campus!
Do I Need To Attend All Parties On My Schedule Each Day?
Yes. The objective of recruitment as a potential new member is to learn as much as you can about Northeastern's Panhellenic Community and to get to know each chapter at Northeastern better. If you do not go to all of the parties on your schedule and you do not have an excused absence (approved by the Panhellenic recruitment team) you risk being released from Primary Recruitment.
Does Recruitment Get In The Way Of School?
Nope! Recruitment is held on the weekend so that PNMs can still attend all of their classes. Academic success is a huge part of being a member of the Panhellenic community, and we want all of our members and PNMs to be successful. PNM Orientation and Bid Day are held on weekday evenings and students who are unable to attend can be caught up!
What Is Recruitment Like?
During primary recruitment, you will have the chance to meet members from all of our chapters and learn about their philanthropic efforts, sisterhood, events, and traditions. You'll also get to share your interests and experiences, helping you find the right fit. This is an opportunity to explore each chapter and for members to get to know you better. You'll meet with various chapter members to learn about their values, academics, and philanthropy. Since most women will be meeting you for the first time, they'll likely ask similar "get to know you" questions. Remember: Always be yourself! You want to find the place where you truly feel at home.
What Do I Wear To Recruitment?
Each round of recruitment gets more formal each day, with Open House being the most casual and Preference is the most formal. However, recruitment days can be long and your comfort is most important! Dress however you feel you will be able to best showcase your true self!
How Do I Make A Good Impression?
This may sound cliché, but be yourself! Chapters meet a lot of Potential New Members throughout the day, and you will meet a lot of chapters. The best way to find your best fit while also standing out to the chapters is by being your authentic, true self. It is also important to be kind and respectful to all chapters and chapter members. After all, we are all part of Panhel together!
What Is PNM Orientation?
PNM Orientation is a kick off event to primary recruitment, where all Potential New Members will meet their Rho Gammas as well as the Recruitment Team. No chapters will be present at this event, as it is solely to provide PNMs with the information they need to have a great recruitment experience!
What If I Find Primary Recruitment Isn't For Me?
Participating in primary recruitment is an excellent opportunity to experience sorority life and determine if you’re interested in joining the Panhellenic community. However, primary recruitment isn’t the only path to joining a sorority. Some chapters also welcome new members through continuous open bidding, or COB, after primary recruitment. This informal process offers another wonderful opportunity to get involved with an organization.
