Welcome

Dear Fellow Panhellenic Women, Friends, Family, Potential New Members, Advisers, Faculty, and Visitors:

Thank you so much for visiting the Northwestern University Panhellenic Association website!  I hope that you will find it helpful.  My name is Kate Butler and I am honored to be the 2010 Panhellenic President here at Northwestern.  I am pleased to say that we have 12 National Panhellenic Conference organizations that comprise nearly 40% of the female undergraduate student body.  Northwestern’s Panhellenic women embody the values of scholarship, leadership, service, and sisterhood, on which our organizations were founded.

The Northwestern Panhellenic community offers each and every woman who chooses to join one of our organizations a unique and memorable experience that can only be found here.  As the twelfth best university in the country (GO CATS!), Northwestern students are extremely driven academically, and Panhellenic women are no exception.  Every quarter, the Panhellenic GPA is higher than the all-female undergraduate GPA. Additionally, the Greek community currently has chapters of Rho Lambda, Order of Omega, and Gamma Sigma Alpha, three honor societies that recognize our women for their outstanding academic achievement and leadership.

Despite high academic standards, scholarship is not the only Greek value that Northwestern Panhellenic women live out daily.  We put our hearts and time into service and philanthropy to give back to the community, of which we are so privileged to be a part of the wonderful Northwestern community.  Each chapter has a unique philanthropic cause that its members actively support in various ways throughout the year.  Whether participating in their chapter’s philanthropies, Greek wide efforts like Greek Build or university-wide initiatives like Dance Marathon and campus service days, Panhellenic women value service and the important role that it plays in their lives, as well as the lives of others.

With an incredible focus on academics and service in the Panhellenic community, it is difficult to believe that Panhellenic women are in some of the largest leadership roles at Northwestern, but they are!  Panhellenic women are leading Northwestern as presidents and executive board members of various student organizations across campus.  Panhellenic women serve on the executive boards of large student groups on campus including Mayfest, Dance Marathon, ASG, Northwestern Class Alliance,  and many more.   Within their own chapters and our greater community, Panhellenic women are offered incredible leadership opportunities as chapter presidents, chapter executive board members, Recruitment Counselors, Standards Board Representatives, and Panhellenic Executive Board members. There is no end to the leadership opportunities Panhellenic women are taking advantage of at Northwestern!

Deciding to join a sorority can be a difficult decision, but ultimately, deciding to join a sorority gives you a home away from home at Northwestern.  Regardless of which of our 12 outstanding organizations you choose to join, the memories and bonds of friendship will last well beyond graduation.  When women join our organization, they not only join a chapter but a unique group of women with whom to share laughter, make memories, overcome weakness, and grow into the women that they are supposed to be.  Personally, joining my chapter was one of the best decisions I have made here at Northwestern and I would not be where I am today had I not joined.  I would not change a moment of this incredible experience and I will cherish it forever.

Please take some time to look through our website where you will find information about our 12 organizations, Recruitment, philanthropy events, and endless opportunities that the Panhellenic Association has to offer to every woman who joins.  If you have any questions regarding the Panhellenic community or want to learn more about us, please don’t hesitate to contact the Panhellenic Executive Board at askPHA@u.northwestern.edu.
